Saltpeter Metals & Iz Word
‘Iz Word’ and ‘Saltpeter Metals’ Featured at Phoenix Community Gallery
The Lab Pop-Up Gallery on Grand Avenue will recognize the work of local artists, Iz Word and Narcissa Segura, as part of this month’s community art series. The show will kick off on Saturday, Nov. 15, and will feature unique and custom pieces from both artists’ collections.
Iz Word is an artist & creator of many styles & forms. A yoga teacher, herbalist, sound healer & educator of spirituality and energy, she says she draws her inspiration from the Ancients. Symbols, omens, original mandalas, eye balls, cats & fluid patterns are the familiar motifs in her drawings, embroidery, crafts & writing. Bold color palettes, lines & shapes are major themes in her work.
“Each piece is crafted with mindfulness & some kind of hidden meaning or intention,” says Word. “To me art isn’t just something I hang on the wall & show off to my friends. The art I create & collect has power! And I feel my art is powerful because it tugs on the invisible strings of the collective human experience.”
‘Saltpeter Metals’ is the project of desert born, Narcissa Segura. Using antiquated tools to create her custom, hand-crafted jewelry and metals, Segura says she pulls her inspiration from nostalgia, herbalism and eclectic gatherings of old texts.
All artwork featured will be open to the public for sale. Community artists interested in serving as a monthly spotlight artist at The Lab Pop-Up Gallery may contact Monica Robles at firstname.lastname@example.org.
